Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market returns to the city centre on Thursday 5 November, bringing German food, festive drinks, gifts and live music to the heart of the city until Christmas Eve.
The market runs across Victoria Square and New Street, giving visitors almost seven weeks to meet friends and browse the stalls.
Visitors can expect bratwurst, pretzels and schnitzel, alongside glühwein and stalls selling gifts, decorations and jewellery. A free live music programme in Victoria Square will feature performers from Birmingham and Germany.
The market reflects Birmingham’s partnership with Frankfurt and has become a fixture of the city’s festive calendar. It began in Birmingham in 2001 and was cancelled in 2020 during the pandemic.
There is a change to the layout this year because of works around Bennetts Hill and Temple Street. There will be no stalls on the affected stretch of New Street between the Apple Store and Nando’s, with the market continuing beyond Corporation Street.
The market is free to enter and runs until Thursday 24 December. It opens Monday to Thursday from 11am to 9pm, Friday from 11am to 9.30pm, Saturday from 10am to 9.30pm and Sunday from 10am to 9pm. On Remembrance Sunday, 8 November, it opens at 1pm.
The Big Wheel and Ice Rink also return to Centenary Square from 5 November until 3 January, except on Christmas Day.
