All US bombers that were stationed at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire have left the UK and returned to bases in the United States, a Pentagon official has said.
"All US bombers that were deployed to RAF Fairford have re-deployed to their home stations in the United States," the official said on Sunday. The US says it keeps the ability to carry out long-range strikes from American territory.
B-1B Lancer bombers had been operating from the Cotswolds base during the conflict with Iran. Aircraft watchers saw B-1s fly out on Sunday.
Arrests near the base
The move comes a week after five men were arrested near the perimeter of RAF Fairford in the early hours of 27 September. They were held on suspicion of preparing an act of terrorism and on explosives offences after being seen by a member of the public. All five have since been released on bail.
A sixth suspect, who holds British and Iranian citizenship, was later arrested in London in connection with the investigation.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham said on Wednesday that there were "strong indications" Iran played a part. Iran has denied involvement.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
