In a major security operation, Jamaican police have seized more than 500 pipe bombs and arrested three men in the Bull Bay area of St Thomas, in what authorities are calling one of the largest explosives finds in recent memory.
The raid took place on Sunday, when officers discovered the cache of explosives at a premises straddling the 10 and 11 Mile communities—an area plagued by escalating gang tensions. The suspects reportedly attempted to flee but were captured after hiding in nearby bushes.
“These men are reportedly bent on going at each other’s throats,” said a senior officer, describing the situation as a brewing turf war between rival factions.
This is the second major seizure in the area this year. In April, police uncovered nearly 900 similar explosive devices, raising fears of a growing black market in improvised weapons.
Authorities suspect the pipe bombs may have been imported into Jamaica, and investigations are ongoing to determine their origin and intended use.
The three men remain in custody as police continue to probe the extent of the operation and any links to organised crime or international arms trafficking.
