Seventeen people have been injured after a Route 24 double-decker bus mounted the pavement and crashed near Victoria Station in central London this morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:20am on Victoria Street, close to Allington Street, during peak rush hour. Emergency services—including police, ambulance crews, London’s Air Ambulance, and fire units—rushed to the scene following reports of a serious collision involving pedestrians and passengers.
According to the Metropolitan Police, 15 people, including the bus driver, were taken to hospital. Two others were treated at the scene. Thankfully, there are no reports of life-threatening injuries at this time.
Eyewitnesses described the moment as “terrifying,” with one bystander stating:
“It was coming from Westminster—really fast—and came off the road. People were screaming. It was terrible.”
Another witness recalled seeing a woman lying on the ground as gym-goers rushed out to help her.
A trail of diesel was seen running down Allington Street, prompting police to ban smoking in the area due to safety concerns

Detective Chief Superintendent Christina Jessah said:
“We understand this incident will have been very distressing to all those involved and injured. We have begun an investigation and are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage.”
Transport for London confirmed that the bus was operated by Transport UK, and expressed concern for those affected. Rosie Trew, TfL’s Head of Bus Service Delivery, added:
"This must have been a distressing incident for everyone involved. We have support available for anyone affected.”
Victoria Street remains closed, with at least 14 bus routes diverted, including the 2, 3, 6, 11, 13, 24, 26, 36, 38, 44, 52, 148, 170, and 390. Commuters are advised to seek alternative routes and allow extra time for travel.
