Jamican Comedian Oliver Samuels Honoured with Golden Lifetime Award

Legendary Jamaican actor and comedian Dr. Oliver Samuels, OD, has been honoured with the prestigious Golden Lifetime Award for his remarkable 55-year career in entertainment. Samuels was also crowned the "Caribbean King of Comedy" at the 42nd International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) on Sunday, 30 March 2025, at the Coral Springs Centre for the Arts in South Florida.

Known as Jamaica's most beloved comedian, Oliver Samuels has entertained audiences for over five decades with his sharp wit and brilliant storytelling. He rose to prominence in the 1970s with the hit Jamaican television series "Oliver at Large," becoming a household name across the Caribbean and beyond. His comedic genius and cultural commentary have solidified his status as a pioneer in Caribbean theatre and entertainment.

Some of Oliver Samuels' best work includes:

"Oliver at Large": This iconic television series from the 1980s, written by producer and playwright Patrick Brown, featured Samuels in various misadventures, playing a character whose name became synonymous with belly-aching laughter.

"Smile Orange": A 1976 film where Samuels played the character Snail, showcasing his versatility and comedic talent.

"Countryman": In this 1982 film, Samuels played the role of Pillion, further cementing his place in Jamaican cinema.

"The Mighty Quinn": A 1989 film where Samuels portrayed Rupert, adding to his impressive filmography.

"Common Law": A stage play where Samuels played the character Winston, demonstrating his prowess in live theatre.

The IRAWMA ceremony celebrates excellence in reggae and world music, recognising 160 nominees across 40 categories. Samuels co-hosted the event alongside actress, author, and poet Judith Falloon-Reid, a Spoken Word nominee from Panama. The night featured a red carpet reception, VIP events, and a live Pay-Per-View stream for fans worldwide.
